Redifininig pop art

Manolis Piladakis exhibition of works on at the Medusa Gallery display this artist’s deep love of pop art, yet at the same time his own personal rendition of this art trend, which involves a contemporary intervention and reassimilation of its ideals. The pop artists were known for their attempts to integrate the world of the mass media, popular imagery, cartoons and images cut out of their magazines into their art. Piladakis also extracts much of his imagery from the colorful pages of magazines, but his ability to combine these images with smudges of black paint, which play a leading role on the picture-plane, enables this artists to create a completely different and much more sober mood on his collage-based art.
