On Thursday, March 3 at 8.00 in the evening Maria Demetriades presents the new work of Maria Vlandi at the Medusa Art Gallery.
Vlandi presents a large-scale sculptural construction under the title “PRAXIS”. The cube- and cylinder-shaped forms that make it up are strongly reminiscent of dismantled architectural members which are freely combined in a kind of ‘asymmetrical symmetry’ to make up a robust work with a clearly contemporary outlook.
The work “ESCAPE” comprises two vertical white volumes, the narrow passage between them crowded with small black elements that resemble stones or vague figures, balancing and jostling for position.
The two wall-mounted works, “SCRIPTS” and “SUPERIMPOSED”, comprise repetitive small surfaces arranged in a whole with an architectural structure yet also carrying the imprint of human touch.
All the works are made of stoneware clay.
