On Thursday, April 14, 8pm Maria Demetriades presented at Medusa Art Gallery, a group of new works by Dimitris Skourogiannis

“The visual vocabulary of Dimitris Skourogiannis encompasses an amalgamation of narratives emerging through an intricate multidisciplinary artistic practice.
For this solo exhibition at Medusa Art Gallery, the artist presents a recent and a new body of work embracing his signature encased installations with confined multi-layered settings.
Fascinated with a large diversity of mediums such as wood, paper, photographs, tulle, wallpaper, and an array of found objects (dolls, plastic ornaments, porcelain, plaster and polyurethane statuettes), Skourogiannis engages them all in vigorous dialogues and augments them with the techniques of painting, collage and embroidery. By utilising a hand stitched practice on tulle he often recreates aspects of an already existing scene and he introduces another dimension that continuously challenges our interpretation of perspective. The transparent property of tulle in combination with the thin cotton threads renders an illusion that gradually unfolds more than one readings of the featured imagery”…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
