The exhibition of sculptures by Nakis Tastsioglou opens at the Medusa Gallery on Wednesday, 4 March.
In this exhibition Nakis Tastsioglou presents works made of Plexiglas.

The transparent sculptures of Nakis Tastsioglou are illuminated and charged by their surroundings in many ways and colours, providing the viewer with multiple stimuli and interpretations.
Geometrical order, harmony and simplicity are the prevailing traits of this set of works.

The transverse placing of corridors (tubes) along the sides of the levels form various angles and twists which add an expressive charge to the hard, realistic surfaces of the works.
Nakis Tastsioglou studied at the School of Fine Arts of Florence. He has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and Europe. He has also presented collective projects in the fields of sculpture, environments, actions and video.

Από τις μαύρες σιδερένιες φιγούρες ο Νάκης Ταστσιόγλου περνά στη λιτή φίνα φόρμα του πλέξιγκλας ερευνώντας τη γεωμετρική τάξη και την αρμονία, μέσα από τους μετασχηματισμούς των διάφανων σωληνώσεων.
Η ενδιαφέρουσα παρουσία του Ταστσιόγλου (γκαλερί Μέδουσα) προσβλέπει κυρίως στα διάφορα επίπεδα της κατασκευής και τις δυνατότητες που προσδίδει στην όλη δόμηση η διαφάνεια και η ελευθερία του «παιχνιδιού», όση επιτρέπει το συγκεκριμένο υλικό.

Με την τελευταία του δουλειά ο Νάκης Ταστσιόγλου απομακρύνεται από το γνώριμο «περιβάλλον» με τις μαύρες σιδερένιες φιγούρες – συλλογική δουλειά με την Έρση Βενετσάνου και τον Κώστα Βρούβα – και διαλέγει ένα σύγχρονο μετα-βιομηχανικό υλικό με διαφορετικά χαρακτηριστικά: Το πλέξιγλας είναι άσπρο διάφανο, καλός αγωγός του φωτός όπως λεει ο ίδιος.
Η διαφάνεια του υλικού μαζί με τις άλλες τους ιδιότητες εξυπηρετεί αποτελεσματικά τους στόχους του καλλιτέχνη για καθαρές στέρεες φόρμες. Ο όγκος του είναι διαπερατός από την όραση και την σκέψη. Ο Ν. Ταστσιόγλου «αγνοεί» την απαίτηση της γλυπτικής παράδοσης για συμπαγή μάζα και αντιπροσωπεύει τη δική του «στερεότητα του κενού».
Η φόρμα λιτή σε κατασκευή και περιεχόμενο υποβάλλει ταυτόχρονα και την ιδέα ενός γερά δομημένου έργου, που μπορεί να αναπτυχθεί και σε μνημειακό αφού είναι γνωστό ότι δεν είναι οι διαστάσεις που καθορίζουν το είδος αλλά οι μορφοπλαστικές αξίες που ενυπάρχουν.

Μια κλασική «υφή» χαρακτηρίζει τα γλυπτά του Νάκη Ταστσιόγλου που βλέπουμε στην «Μέδουσα». Η διαφάνεια του υλικού πλήρως εναρμονισμένη με την απέριττη, λιτή γραμμή του γλυπτού συνωμοτεί δημιουργικά με το φως για να καταλήξει σε ένα αισθητικά ωραίο αποτέλεσμα. Πρόκειται για γλυπτά που ενσωματώνονται στο χώρο όχι μόνο χάρη στην αυτοδύναμη διαφάνειά τους αλλά και χάρη στη «γραμμή» με την οποία τα προικίζει, κάθε φορά ο καλλιτέχνης.

It is not the first time that Nakis Tatsioglou exhibits in the Medusa gallery. He hat exhibited int the same hall in 1983, when with Ersie Venetsanou and Costas Vrouvas the had created – their own , with its familiar black iron figures. For his current work, Tastsioglou has chosen a modern material with entirely different properties namely plexiglass, which is clear and transparent, and is , as he states. The transparency of this medium and its other characteristics serve the artist well in his search for clear and solid forms. Their volume can be traversed by sight and thougth. Nakis Tatsioglou the principle of of his own conception. The form is simple in structure and coulent, but it is , as it projects the idea of a solidly – constructed piece of work, which can be developed into something monumental, since we know that it is not the dimensions which determine the work, but the plastic forms of the values inherent in the work. A geometrical order, a harmony and a simplicity characterise the whole of work, while the partial elements –the straight and angled lines, the levels, the transverse location of the tubes (which is differentiated proportionately)- complete the expression and give form to the inner tendencies of the work. In Tastsioglou΄s recent work, the various levels move and the whole structure in defined by the free relationship among the structural elements. Furthermore, one can distinguish systems of transformations in all the structures. In summarising, we can say that while geometry seems to dictate its principles in N. Tastsioglou΄s work, emotion also has its place and participates: In the mirror that produces the idol is reflected the structure, as it is in the color which is expressionistically in the pleciglass, in the discreet iron , in the structure which invites the viewer to participate.
