Lina Bebi – “both sides now” – 10.06.2011 – 08.06.2012

Lina Bebi
Both sides now
10 June – 31 October 2011

Fotis Mellios has created a café at the harbour of Aghios Dimitris-Boukadoura in Naoussa, Paros which operates also as an art space.

His cooperation with the Medusa Art Gallery continues for the seventh consecutive year. Following on the previous years’ successful exhibitions of Lina Bebi, Marigo Kassi, Voula Massura, Nakis Tastsioglou, Anton, Maria Grigoriadi, Miltos Michailidis, Panagiotis Linardakis and Stergios Stamos, on Saturday, June 10 at 9 in the evening Maria Demetriades (Medusa Art Gallery) and Fotis Mellios (Fotis art café) will present for a second time the works of Lina Bebi.

In her show ‘’both sides now”, named after Jonni Mitchell’s song of the same title, Lina Bebi presents a series of works that come as a sequel to her previous solo exhibition and deal with the existential aspect of the human condition.

The works are created on two surfaces and designed so that they can be seen from both sides. The first surface is graphite drawings on synthetic rice paper, and the second one is lacework on synthetic fabric using a paper-cutting technique.

The combination of transparent materials and the different shading as one changes one’s vantage point, the interplay between full and empty in the lacework that keeps concealing and revealing parts of the drawings, the optical illusion of three-dimensional space and the subjects of the works are all elements that comment upon the ambivalence of feelings and experiences.

Duration of the exhibition: 10 June – 31 October 2011
Opening hours:10:00 – 03:00
